Pink Slip Inspections
In NSW, pink slip inspections, otherwise known as eSafety checks, are required for all light vehicles that are older than 5 years. As a result, vehicles are checked annually, every time registration is due. At our authorised inspection station, we are qualified to check all aspects of your vehicle, including:

Keep in mind that eSafety checks can be undertaken anywhere up to 6 months prior to the rego expiration date. If your vehicle fails its inspection, you will be issued a white slip failure notice, with necessary repairs to be undertaken within 14 days.

What’s the difference between a pink slip and a blue slip?
A pink slip (eSafety check) is for registered vehicles that need renewal. A blue slip is for unregistered or interstate vehicles being registered in NSW. Both confirm the vehicle’s roadworthiness and that it meets safety standards before it can legally be driven.
How long does a rego inspection take?
Most safety inspections take about 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle type and condition. The process includes checking tyres, brakes, lights, suspension and overall safety. If repairs are needed, you’ll receive a report outlining what must be fixed before your registration can be renewed.
What happens if my car fails the inspection?
If your vehicle doesn’t pass, you’ll get a report listing what needs attention. Once those issues are repaired, you have 14 days to return for a reinspection at no extra cost. After that timeframe, a new inspection fee usually applies.
Blue Slip Inspections
In NSW, blue slip inspections, otherwise known as Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection reports, are required for any unregistered light vehicle. If your registration expired more than 3 months ago or your vehicle has been brought into NSW from interstate or overseas, you will need to book it for a blue slip inspection at Motorhead Garage.
The same goes for vehicles in Tweed Heads South that don’t have number plates. If your vehicle has defect notices, a new engine or was written off and is now approved for re-registration, you will also require a blue slip inspection.
